2004 sportsman- converting squeegee angle adjustment to tool-less

$

Hi everybody
first post here, we recently received and installed our first auto, a used m&r sportsman 6c/8s
were setup, done a few jobs, still learning and a little intimidated!
we're seeing a couple things we need to upgrade right away, winged flood bars, triple durometer squeegees (the press came with REALLY old, dinged, soft squeegees), as well as cleaning and tightening several areas.

we also noticed that newer presses come with tool-less handle adjusters for the squeegee and flood bar angles, ours only has a bolt on each side that must be loosened and tightened with a wrench.

were thinking we should be able to swap out the original setup with those handles that have a bolt thread attached.

has anyone done this? Seems like a no brained if it can work, adjusting 6 print heads squeegee angle with a tool is really slow!

any other tips for us?

out first jobs came out surprisingly well, we poured over these and other forums for months, cataloging all the advice we could find!

'91 GT-8 Showing uneven pressure across squeegee

Hi forum-

My '91 GT-8 has been acting weird. On head 4, it seems as though the left squeegee chopper does not receive as much air pressure as the right, and this causes issues clearing the ink from wider prints.

Lately, this problem has been manifesting in head 1 as well. Swapping choppers from front-to-back, side-to-side does not mitigate the issue, which makes me think it's a pissed off valve down below or something.

Any ideas?

Create a Buzz with Social Media

From Printwear Magazine

Now is a great time to assess your company's social media program. Of course, you should constantly monitor your social media accounts, but take the start of a new year to examine what you're doing, what's working, and make any necessary changes. This is also when you should plan your editorial calendar, even if it's as simple as setting up reminders for product launchings, sales and specials, or trade show announcements to ensure your social media outlets spread the appropriate messages at the right times.

PRUNE YOUR LISTS
The prevailing theory seems to be that more “likes” equals more success, but this isn't always the case. What matters more than the number of likes is the quality of those likes, particularly when it comes to Facebook. On Facebook, any given post is generally shown to a percentage of your followers, so genuine likes matter.
To prune your followers, first take a look at who engages with your page. What constitutes engagement varies by each social media platform, but you’re looking for people who like, favorite, retweet, repin, or comment. Those people are definitely worth keeping.
Next, look at your followers’ location. If your followers are largely from Indonesia or India, consider deleting those followers. Many click farms operate in Indonesia and India; thus, likes from those countries may not be valid or useful. Focus on quality, not quantity.
This is also a good time to examine the accounts you follow. When first starting a social media account, many users follow indiscriminately to make connections and generate follows and likes for their own accounts. Now that the accounts are established, get rid of the dead weight. Unfollow or unfriend any account that doesn’t post regularly or mostly publishes rubbish posts. Instead, follow accounts that help you meet goals and reach your target market. Every account you follow adds more noise to your feed, and some platforms have limits on how many accounts you can follow. Make every follow and friend count.
The same goes for deleting dead accounts. As more social media platforms become available, you might think your company needs presence everywhere. Nothing could be further from the truth. You only have so much time in your day, and only so much of that time is devoted to social media. Spending time on underperforming or dead accounts benefits no one. If an account doesn't generate much engagement or your target market isn't on that platform, it’s time to delete the account and spend your time more wisely.

MAKE A PLAN
It’s no accident that the first word in social media is “social,” so reach out to others and form a community. Make sure that liking, retweeting, repining, and commenting are a daily part of your social media program. Social media is about interaction and connecting with others. If you only post sales messages and never interact, you’ll find that you're talking to yourself.
Also, don’t be afraid to try new platforms. New social media outlets pop up all the time, and one of the new platforms may be the perfect place for your business. Do your research first, and make sure the new outlet is in the realm of your target market and suits your social media style. Understand how to properly use the new platform and give accounts time to grow and the attention they need.
Everyone wants to post the sensational video or tweet that goes viral, but that's a rare phenomenon. Modest goals are a better bet and usually benefit your account in the long run. Look at what you've posted over the past year and see what created the most engagement on each platform. Examine what competitors are doing and see which posts on their feeds engaged people the most. With this information, you can craft posts on your feeds that echo what you know works without copying it. Your goal isn’t to go viral but to add value and interest to your feeds.
Along with competitors, watch industry players. Find out which companies are the stars in your industry and keep an eye out for those accounts that consistently generate buzz and engagement. You can follow and learn from these accounts.
Keep in mind that social media works both ways, and ignoring your engaged followers is the worst social media sin. Respond to comments, retweets, and questions in a timely manner. Don’t simply post so that new content appears regularly on your feeds. Half of social media is about communicating with others, and it’s an integral part of the process.
Like most advertising mediums, generating a buzz on social media isn’t free, but with the right research, plan, and platform, advertising provides good returns for your dollar. Don’t waste time complaining about the cost. Most social media outlets weren’t set up as a nonprofit, nor do most claim to be so. Budgeting for social media advertising should be part of your planning for the year.
When it comes to social media, be responsive, interesting, and aware. Manage your accounts consistently, and pay attention to your engaged followers. Remember, the most successful social media accounts are the ones that give you a peek behind the curtain and reveal a company’s personality.

Replacing the batteries in older M&R presses.

We have a couple of older presses that I need to switch out the batteries in the control panel. I've had the back up batteries for so long I'm now questioning if those are good.

Can batteries go bad without using them? How can I tell?

Not exactly sure on the procedure to replace them as well. Do I disconnect the equipment before changing the battery or is turning off the machine sufficient? I have also heard, once the battery is unplugged, I have 5 minutes before the internal memory is completely erased. Is this true?

Koolmist real world experience

Does any one have real production experience using a koolmist in place of a cool down station? They seem like a great concept, but don't know of anyone ever using one. It would be great to print an 8 color shirt in one rotation on our 10 color press with two flashes at good production speeds. Most of our printing is very intricate and requires two flashes to keep the prints nice and sharp.
Let me know your thoughts.

Saving Screens for Multiple Uses

The company I work for has many customers that frequently buy shirts with the same artwork on them. To help make this process more efficient, I implemented a plan that would catalog used screens so that they could be saved and used again the next time the order was placed. This has reduced our shop costs by not having to continually coat and burn the screens every time the order is placed. When I first started this project, I looked for literature online and found nothing. Has anyone else done this successfully? There are some aspects I would like to improve on and would like to hear about other techniques that have worked.

Haze remover that works..

In the mid 90's we had some haze remover that really worked. It was a bit caustic, sting if you got it on your skins, put holes in your clothes, but it worked. We've tried all kinds of brands since then and can not find anything that really works. We are small but busy shop, so it can be a long time between applications. Anyone have anything they like that gets outs old tuff stains..

Need part number for I-dot Printhead screw

One of my original Printhead screws are starting to strip from the head of the screw. The screw is the one that attaches the print head to the bezel before you attach the complete piece to the
carriage as shown in the pic below. Are these screws available from M&R to order as I could not find a part number in my manual. Also Epson lists no part number.

Gauntlet GT8 erratic print head

I have a 96 Gauntlet revolver and my #1 print head is acting a little strange.

When setting up if I push the button on the control panel to stroke on head 1, it floods, squeege drops , immediately raises and returns to stop position - for single or double stroke - sometimes it will print the single but not the double.

If I do a manual print with the toggle - same result

If I send it into Auto mode it will print single but not double UNLESS another print head is on, if I turn another head on it works fine.

Checked sensors, adjusted flow controls , press has fresh install and approx 10 hours on it

Any ideas?

THANKS!

maxi cure dryer problem

so when i turn the dryer on in the morning everything will run well for a while. we keep the temp set to about 900, after an hour or two, the temp gauge will spike up to about 1100 degrees, but all the panels will be off except the one near the thermostat.

we replaced all the relays.. that was my first guess

problem persists.. this last time it spiked i left it on and checked everything running with my voltage meter, no power running anywhere after the relays. nothing in any of the mercury switches, donuts, or panels..

thinking the temp control panel needs to be replaced.. anyone have this problem, before?

A question about pausing a job - Sportsman 6/8

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, being the only automatic M&R on the Island (we're based in Malta - EU), its a nit tough getting tech support but now that we have our Sportsman I cannot belive how we ever worked without it.

Could someone possibly help with a problem I cannot seem to solve.

Say you are mid-run and need to pause for a moment, the only way I have stopped the press till now is by toggling the Automatic toggle switch to center position.

but when I restart the machine (auto toggle up & print start with the other switch) it starts from scratch and partially completed prints need to go through the whole process again, and have got through already printed colours once again -

my question is, is there any way to pause the machine to then restart it where ti left off in the sequence it was printing?
we have a sportsman 6 colour 8 station

many thanks in advance.

Our sportsman 6/8 has a recurring fault. I've uploaded a video of the issue if anyone from m&r could help it would be great. Press purchased from Dave roper but he's in the UK and we don't have any support in Malta.

The error we get is "no air in indexer". The pallets stay in the raised position and it stops. The fault is very strange. Sometimes the machine prints 30 times and fails. Other times it prints twice and fails. I'm going crazy. Work piling up and I have no idea.

I changed all the air lines and joint as I had a slight leak but it didn't solve the problem. If anyone can offer any insight you may just save me jumping of a cliff !

Here's the link to the video.

pls help - Press has stopped - No Air in Indexer

Hi All,
ive had a recurring problem with press I recently purchased - sportsman 6/8
the fault does not occur at the same interval.
basically, we start printing then after 3 or 5 or sometimes even 30 prints the press stops, dumps air, pallets remain raised and we get the error message no air in indexer.

we had originally thought the problem was an air leak and we changed all the air lines, there is now absolutely no air leak and it is still doing it.

we need urgent help - we're in Malta and have no tech support as we purchased the press from Dave Roper in the UK

I don't know what to do, we have work piling up and a press that will not work.
I have taken a video of the error, can anyone please offer any insight?

oh, all proximity sensors are working fine, checked them all.

thanks in advance

Sidewinder head repair

I need a tool to swage the "eyelets" or "bushings" on the heads of the sidewinders where the springs hook onto. I've called tech, ,looked online but haven't found anything yet. Any ideas? The eyelet part number is 3041438. They came that way from the factory and would fall out if they weren't swaged over.
